Review

"...an edited volume of Tomkins's selected writings is of such great value. Though the task was no doubt arduous, E. Virginia Demos has selected and edited a perspicuous account of Tomkins's nearly 50 years of scholarship." Ed de St. Aubin, Contemporary Psychology

Book Description

Silvan Tomkins was one of the most creative theorists of emotion in the recent past, but he was ahead of his time, and largely ignored. This book gathers together his writings under one cover and makes them available to psychologists, psychiatrists, and social scientists at this more favorable time. His theory is unique in specifying the role of emotion as distinct from cognition and drives. It is truly a bio-psycho-social theory of human emotion and of human psychological functioning.
