Synopsis
Reinterpreting the past the greatest form of creative flattery never goes out of fashion. But in a climate over saturated with todays slick technologically driven imagery, there has been a return to the comfort of familiar imagery and typography, particularly from the 20th century. Drawing on classic examples from the history of graphic design, New Retro shows how the past can be updated to the needs of today. Targeted directly at the international graphic-design market, this solidly researched and presented work is aimed at students, who are unlikely to have come across much of this material, and at design professionals, who are always looking for inspiration from the past.

About the Authors
Brenda Dermody practises as a designer and is also a lecturer at the Dublin Institute ofTechnology, where she chairs theVisual Communication Design progamme.
Teresa Breathnach has taught the history of design at the Institute of Art, Design andTechnology, Dun Laoghaire, the National College of Art and Design and the Dublin Institute of Technology.
