About the Author
Cees W. de Jong is Director of the design studio and publishing company V+K Design-Publishing in the Netherlands. Alston W. Purvis is professor of the visual arts division of the School of Arts in at Boston University. Between them they wrote Creative Type, also published by Thames & Hudson.

Boordevol werk van de grootste vertegenwoordigers, waaronder Jan Toorop, Theovan Doesburg, Piet Zwart en vele anderen, presenteert dit boek een visueel spektakel dat alle grafisch ontwerpers, kunstenaars en kunst- en designhistorici zullen bekoren. Jean Theodoor (Jan) Toorop, was een van de belangrijkste Nederlandse beeldend kunstenaars uit de periode 1880-1910, de grootste in het tijdvak tussen Van Gogh en Mondriaan. Aanvankelijk schilderde hij in impressionistische stijl, maar na het pointillisme ontwikkelde hij zich tot symbolistisch schilder, met dien verstande dat hij in eenzelfde tijdsbestek in beide stijlen werk produceerde. Toorop was ook actief als portrettekenaar en ontwierp keramiek, reclameaffiches en boekbanden. De Nederlandse art nouveau wordt vaak met zijn werk geassocieerd. Seller Inventory # 5599
