Synopsis
This volume features more than 50 outstanding houses, as well as apartments, restaurants, hotels and nightclubs, at the cutting edge of Australian design. Their exteriors and interiors reveal a blend of influences from the diverse cultures of the country's population and Australia's own distinctively bold forms in glass, mud-brick and local timber. Many use corrugated iron, the country's most striking architectural trademark. Ranging from the tropical rainforests of Queensland and the coastal Northern Territory to the temperate regions of Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania, the buildings are presented in four environments: city, suburb, beach and bush. With more than 400 colour photographs, the overall settings are described in text and followed by an inspirational parade of ideas, project by project.
