Synopsis
This book introduces students to the process of doing mathematics and prepares them to succeed in higher-level mathematics courses. By discussing proof techniques, problem solving methods, and the understanding of mathematical ideas, the book provides a solid foundation for students majoring in mathematics, science, and engineering. About the Author
Steven Galovich is Professor of Mathematics at Lake Forest College. Dr. Galovich's specializations are algebraic number theory and algebra, and his interests include the nature of mathematics, Fermat's Last Theorem, and the history of mathematics. In 1988, he won the Carl B. Allendoerfer Award for expository writing presented by the Mathematical Association of America for the paper "Products of sines and cosines" published in Mathematics Magazine.

Soft cover. Condition: Good. 2nd Edition. Thomson, copyright 2007. Second edition. College textbook, paperback, xi + 307 pages including hints and solutions to selected exercises and index, illustrated with figures and examples. This copy in good overall condition. Clean, unmarked text. No hi-liting or marginal notes. Free of tears and folds. Firm binding--no loose pages. However, the bottom edge of the book got wet. Some wrinkling to the lower edge of the pages, but the wrinkling decreases as you progress toward the back pages of the book. No stains, just wrinkling to the lower inch of the pages, but less noticeable after the first 50 pages or so. That's the main drawback to this copy. Otherwise in good condition.
