Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This fascinating book reveals a startling truth about Roman poetry: a large portion of the works we attribute to authors of the Augustan era, including Virgil, Horace, and Ovid, are not entirely their own. The author painstakingly analyzes key texts from these poets, demonstrating how skillful forgers seamlessly inserted spurious lines and even entire poems into their works. The result is a groundbreaking reassessment of the Roman literary canon and its impact on Western literature as a whole. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. Seller Inventory # 9780484937719_0
