This Intermediate Course has been prepared for the use of Porto Rican teachers who have completed the elementary course in English prescribed by the Department of Educa tion. It is assumed that those who study it are already familiar with the elementary book, Lessons in English.

The lessons here presented consist of selections for read ing, and a series of exercises based upon the selections. In each lesson English words which have not been used either previously in this book or in Lessons in English are printed in full-faced type. A complete vocabulary of these words appears at the back of the book. In this vocabulary are also included many of the less commonly used words which have been given in Lessons in English, and the most important irregular verbs, with their principal parts.
