AT the request of a devoted daughter of my late dearly loved brother in Christ, Mr. George cowell. I willingly prefix a few lines to the touchingly affectionate and accurate record of his remarkable life, and not less extraordinary labours in the vineyard of our Divine Master.

The task I undertake is one which, though necessarily tempered by a measure of sadness, yet teems with celestial hopes and joys. For, it is one of the peculiar pleasures of Christian experience to trace the footsteps of the ﬂock, especially of those members of it concern ing whom we can recall blessed seasons, when, ere they had run the appointed race and had finished their pilgrim course, we journeyed with them on terms of sweetest fellowship.
