Perlustrandos quod suscepimus Romanorum de re rustica libros, inspieere lieuit vitam eorum privatam in ea parte, quae summi videtur esse momenti. Semper enim agriculturae studium Romani putarunt primum ac nobilissi mum, ut sammi in republica viri prisois temporibus ruri potins quam in urbe habitarent ipsique aratrum regerent, ut satis est cognitum, posterioribus si non ipsi manu, at per servos vel colonos fundum colerent. Quamquam ex eis qui exstant libris iam non licet illius aetatis mores planius cognoscere, nisi per occasionem seriptores priseae simplicitatis fiunt membres. Immo iam a Catone ducimur ad eum rei rustieae statum, quo latins patet fundus, domini partes habet quodammodo vilieus, ille autem urbanis rebus occupatus nisi quibusdam anni temporibus in parte villae a rustico apparatu discreta ruri non habitat.
