Si dans toute lan gue les conjonctions sont en quelque sorte les pivots dela phrase, puisque c'est autour d'elles que tournent les divers éléments de la proposition, partant dela pensée, jamais conjonction ne fut mêlée à des combinaisons plus variées. Alors que d'autresidiomes, mieux outillés, possèdent une foule de ces particules si nécessaires, le français se contente d'une seule, et, selon les besoins du moment, lui assigne des emplois nouveaux, ou bien, en la prenant toujours pour matière première, en forge sans cesse de nouvelles locutions conjonctives. En sorte que faire l'histoire de la conjonction que c'est faire l'histoire de la proposition française. Et ne dit-on pas que la France est la proposition?
