La séré nité calme et impartiale du narrateur ne se dément pas un seul instant soit que, racontant les principaux événements de la vallée de la Boire Ripaire au moyen-âge, il doive discourir des faits particuliers de ses ancêtres les anciens seigneurs de Bardonnêche, soit que, rappelant ses souvenirs du règne de Charles Albert, il parle des choses qu' il a vues, des per sonnages qu'il a connus, des faits mémorables auxquels il a pris part. Il n ignorait pas les bruits erronés de toute sorte ni les appréciations injustes que l'on faisait courir sur son compte. Mais, dévoué de toute son âme au bien de son Roi et de son Pays, tranquille dans la conscience du devoir ao compli et des services rendus à sa patrie, confiant dans la justice du temps, n' aimant pas à occuper le public de sa personne, il laissa tout dire, tout imprimer. Il rétablit la vê rité des faits sans jamais se départir de sa réserve habituelle dans ces notes que d'ailleurs il ne destinait qu'à un petit nombre d'amis.
