Robert Kronenburg is an architect and Chair of Architecture at the University of Liverpool, School of Architecture and Building Engineering, United Kingdom. He has written for the Architects' Journal, Building Design, Architectural Design. and Fabrics Architecture and contributed to the World Encyclopedia of Vernacular Architecture edited by Paul Oliver. His books include Houses in Motion: The Genesis, History and Development of the Portable Building, Portable Architecture, FTL: Softness Movement and Light and he is editor of Transportable Environments. His most recent book, Spirit of the Machine, examines the influence of tectonics on the generation of architectural form. Professor Kronenburg is a past Fulbright fellow and in 1998 received a visiting fellowship at St.Johns College, Oxford University. His research work has received support from the Building Centre Trust, London and the Graham Foundation, Chicago and in September 2001 he took up a Leverhulme Trust fellowship to pursue research at Kyoto University, Japan. He has been a guest lecturer at universities in Europe, the Far East and the USA and contributed to a range of programmes for BBC Radio. In 1998, he was curator of the major exhibition Portable Architecture held at the Royal Institute of British Architects architecture centre and the touring exhibition Spontaneous Construction. He is curatorial advisor on the Vitra Design Museum's exhibition Living in Motion which opened in Germany in May 2002 tours Europe until 2004.
