Synopsis

Since 1990, a whole generation of new, advanced, high-performing RISC-type microprocessors has emerged. This work provides detailed descriptions of the most recent RISC systems and follows in from the author's previous book in this series, "RISC Systems". The text is subdivided into three parts, commencing with the basic principles of RISC and some examples of RISC experimental prototypes. In Part Two, high-performance, commercial RISC-type systems are described, including the most important features of each system's architecture, organization and implementation. Part Three is dedicated to the evaluation of the RISC systems already described in the book, and their applications in multiprocessors, workstations and real-time systems. Examples such as CRAY T3D and Silicon Graphics Challenge, are given detailed coverage. A selection of problems for students is included at the end of the book. This work is aimed at university undergraduate and postgraduate students of electrical and computer engineering and computer science, along with computer professionals and practising engineers.
