This book is intended for batch programmers who wish to learn to design and code online applications using command level CICS. The first eight chapters cover what one needs to know in order to begin writing simple CICS applications, the final four chapters cover some of the other features and tools that form part of an experienced CICS programmer's repertoire. The philosophy behind the book is one of simplicity. Whenever there are several possible methods for accomplishing something, suggest using the simplest methods, unless there is a sound reason to do otherwise. The book places special emphasis on terminal devices: how they work, how they relate to the rest of the system and how they are used in actual applications.
