From the Back Cover:
Effective strategies for promoting literacy across the curriculum

Combining a real grounding in actual classroom experience with a solid research and theoretical base, Martha Rapp Ruddell’s Teaching Content Reading and Writing equips you with classroom–tested theories and practices for teaching reading and writing across the curriculum.

Now revised and updated, this Fourth Edition features increased coverage of sheltered instruction, a greater emphasis on the multi–modal nature of the literacy practices of today′s youth and its implications in content classrooms, and more coverage of high–stakes testing and alternative assessment formats.

Inside, you’ll find valuable resources including:

  • Over 30 different instructional strategies for teachers to use to guide students′ reading and writing in middle and secondary schools.
  • Guidelines on how to use technology to promote student literacy in content areas.
  • Comprehensive coverage of second language acquisition and development and appropriate instructional practice for teaching bilingual students in multilingual classrooms.
  • Step–by–step lists of how to plan and prepare, and what you need to consider to make specific instructional strategies work.
  • Demonstration lesson plans in many different content areas throughout.
