This book covers advances in the methods of catalytic asymmetric synthesis and their applications. Coverage moves from new materials and technologies to homogeneous metal-free catalysts and homogeneous metal catalysts. The applications of several methodologies for the synthesis of biologically active molecules are discussed. Part I addresses recent advances in new materials and technologies such as supported catalysts, supports, self-supported catalysts, chiral ionic liquids, supercritical fluids, flow reactors and microwaves related to asymmetric catalysis. Part II covers advances and milestones in organocatalytic, enzymatic and metal-based mediated asymmetric synthesis, including applications for the synthesis of biologically active molecules. Written by leading international experts, this book consists of 16 chapters with 2000 References and illustrations of 560 schemes and figures.

MICHELANGELO GRUTTADAURIA is Full Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Palermo. His fields of interest have previously included heterocycle synthesis, physical organic chemistry, and stereoselective synthesis using organoselenium chemistry. His current interests include organocatalysis and new supported recyclable catalysts. Dr. Gruttadauria is the author of over eighty papers and reviews.
FRANCESCO GIACALONE, PhD, is a Researcher in the Organic Chemistry Department at the University of Palermo. He is author or coauthor of about forty scientific papers, including four reviews in peer-reviewed journals, as well as fifteen book chapters and forty congress presentations. His current research interests focus on the preparation of recyclable materials in heterogeneous catalysis for organic synthesis. In addition, Dr. Giacalone coedited the book Fullerene-Polymers: Synthesis, Properties and Applications, published by Wiley.
The book that connects catalytic asymmetric synthesis technologies to their applied methods
Catalytic asymmetric synthesis―the preparation of enantiomerically pure or enantioenriched chemicals by using a chiral catalyst―is at the heart of synthetic organic and medicinal chemistry, and Catalytic Methods in Asymmetric Synthesis addresses advances in the field, as well as their applications. The book covers hot topics in organic chemistry and also examines applications for synthesizing biologically active molecules.
Part I looks at recent developments in new materials and technologies, such as supports and supported catalysts, self-supported catalysts, chiral ionic liquids, supercritical fluids, flow reactors, and microwaves related to asymmetric catalysis. Part II covers advances and milestones in organocatalytic, enzymatic, and metal-based mediated asymmetric synthesis, including applications for the synthesis of biologically active molecules.
Written by leading international experts, this edited volume contains over 550 schemes and figures to illuminate the concepts detailed in the text.
