Tony Champion is Senior Lecturer in Geography at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. His current research interests lie principally in population and social geography. He acted as chairman of the Institute of British Geographers Working Party on Migration in Britain. Recent publications include Contemporary Britain: a geographical perspective (co-authored with Alan Townsend) and People in the countryside: studies of social change in rural Britain (co-edited with Charles Watkins) Tony Fielding is Lecturer in the School of Social Sciences at the University of Sussex. His research interests include patterns and trends of migration in Western Europe. He is currently engaged in a study of migration flows affecting London and South East England. Recent publications include Patterns and processes of urban change in the UK (HMSO, 1990)
