Synopsis
This book presents the material needed for a serious technical course on design and operation of microcomputers, and on the properties of microprocessors which form the heart of the microcomputer. The text follows introductory courses on electronic logic and programming, and can be used in conjunction with practical work on microcomputers. All the four popular 8-bit microprocessors are studied in detail. Because each of the descriptions is laid out in a similar way, a reader who has studied one device in a course will easily be able to follow the description of the other three devices. Other features of the book include reviews of the major 16-bit microprocessors, of single-chip microcomputers and of signal processor chips; full treatment of interrupts and DMA; substantial discussions of real time signal processing, software and hardware testing.
