Ruthlessly, she had woven a web to catch others, but she was the one who was the victim of murder. The sophisticated guests brought their fears and stresses with them for the weekend. They had been fed the same menu of jealousy, greed, shame and betrayel. The only question was, who had hated her THAT much?

John D MacDonald was born in Sharon, Pennslyvannia. A graduate of Syracuse University and Harvard School of Business Administration, he began his writing career when he was serving overseas with the United States Army during World War II. Instead of the usual letter home, he wrote a story to his wife Dorothy, which she successfully sold to a magazine. His move to 'pulps' meant that his first novel The Brass Cupeake was published in paperback in America in 1950. This led to over seventy books written in his lifetime, as he became one of the most widely read thriller writers in the world. His success was particularly recognized for his Travis McGee series, leading to critical acclaim and prestigious awards. John MacDonald died on Christmas Day 1986.
