Dynamics of Marine Structures begins by outlining foundational concepts of stochastic wave theory to facilitate cardinal understanding of nonlinear dynamical systems in the marine environment that respond to complex interactions with a wide range of factors. The book then illustrates, in detail, up-to-date statistical methods and hydro-elastic numerical modeling techniques to accurately predict extreme responses and operating limits of marine structures. Next, users will find comprehensive practical guidance on how to undertake marine structural design work for a variety of structures, including ships, sea walls, vertical breakwaters, harbors, and offshore energy facilities.
Finally, the volume also reviews existing literature and summarizes the latest applied research investigations for students, researchers, and professional engineers alike, thus paving the way for further advancements in next-generation marine construction in support of global sustainable development targets.

Dr. Wang received his BSc and PhD degrees in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China, in 1989 and 2008, respectively, and his MSc degree from the University of Washington, Seattle, USA, in 2001. Since 2012, he has been an Associate Professor at the School of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Civil Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. His research focuses on nonlinear stochastic ocean waves and marine hydrodynamics. He is a member of ASCE and ASME and serves as the Associate Editor of Ship Production and Design (SNAME). In 2018, he was the recipient of a First-class Science and Technology Advancement Award bestowed by the Ministry of Education of People’s Republic of China in 2018, the Science and Technology Award presented by the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society in 2018, and also the prestigious Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award.
Taking an interdisciplinary approach, Dynamics of Marine Structures begins with an
introduction to the marine environment and the diverse types of marine structures.
Chapters on marine environmental random processes and environmental loads
explore the complexities of waves, wind, currents, and seismic activity, emphasizing
both deterministic and stochastic modeling approaches. Subsequent chapters
provide in-depth coverage of the dynamic analysis of marine structures, from singledegree-
of-freedom systems to multi-degree-of-freedom and continuous systems,
ensuring that readers gain a holistic understanding of dynamic response analysis
techniques, from basic oscillatory motion to complex probabilistic predictions. The
final chapter focuses on probabilistic design methodologies, encompassing the
inverse first-order reliability method, bivariate kernel density estimation, and a
novel environmental contour method based on copula transformation. Simulation
methods and numerical techniques for dynamic analysis are also featured.
