9780443289156: Polarization Optics in Optical Fiber Communication Systems

Synopsis

Polarization Optics in Optical Fiber Communication Systems provides a complete overview of polarization optics as it applies to fiber optic communication systems. The book begins with the basics of polarization optics that is followed by the physical mechanisms and mathematical descriptions of the polarization phenomena encountered in the transmission of optical signals in fiber optic channels, such as rotation of state of polarization, polarization mode dispersion, and polarization-dependent loss. The book then discusses methods for measurements of polarization mode dispersion and polarization dependent loss, modeling methods of polarization fiber channel, and polarization equalization methods in fiber optic communication systems.

This book provides a foundation in polarization optics and the treatment of polarization effects for researchers and engineers who study or work in the field of fiber optic communications.

  • Comprehensive coverage of nearly all topics in polarization optics and applications in fiber optic communications
  • First introduction of new concept of polarization representation and transformation between different polarization representations
  • Insightful descriptions of polarization effects in fibers, like rotation of state of polarization, polarization mode dispersion, and polarization dependent loss
  • Introduces the concept of polarization representations and representation

From the Back Cover

Polarization Optics in Optical Fiber Communication Systems provides a complete overview of polarization optics as it applies to fibre optic communication systems. It begins with the basics of polarisation optics. This is followed by the physical mechanisms and mathematical descriptions of the polarisation phenomena encountered in the transmission of optical signals in fibre optic channels: such as rotation of state of polarization, polarization mode dispersion and polarization-dependent loss. The book then discusses methods for measurements of polarization mode dispersion and polarization dependent loss, modelling methods of polarization fibre channel, and polarization equalization methods in fibre optic communication systems. This book provides a foundation in polarization optics and the treatment of polarization effects for researchers and engineers who study or work in the field of fibre optic communications.
