Synopsis

The second volume of Teaching Color and Form is intended for secondary-school students ages 13 to 16. It is the direct continuation of part one, written for ages 11 and 12.

The book deals with teaching graphic art and designing in color, presenting 394 black and white illustrations and 244 in color, carefully thought out and arranged from the point of view of subject as well as design. The principle aim of the book is the teaching of seeing, the improvement of visual thinking (supplementing verbal and mathematical thinking), and the development of creativity. At the same time it should appeal to the emotional and intuitive areas and develop an independent aesthetic judgment.

The contents include materials and tools: pencils, pens and ballpoint pens, felt pens, charcoal, colored pencils, wax crayons, watercolors, paper cutting, linoleum printing, fabric printing, as well as the use of color in batik, mosaic, embroidery, weaving appliqué, and fabric pictures.

Cross-references throughout relate each project to others and help the teacher to make his course a cohesive unit that is continuously exciting and profitable for his students.
