About the Author

About the Author C. Thomas Mitchell is an associate professor at indiana University, Bloomington, where he teaches design history and theory. He is also founder of the Center for Design Process, an institute devoted to the study of user–responsive design. Mitchell′s previous publications include Redefining Designing: From Form to Experience (New York: John Wiley & Sons, 1993), a book which featured a critical examination of recent trends in design and advocated more user–responsive approaches.

Synopsis

Featuring interviews with 13 architectural designers, this text discusses their successful designs as well as their unsuccessful designs. What are the elements that make particular buildings successful? What mistakes were made that led to problems and what can designers learn from them? The work includes over 125 images of works by the designers interviewed, presents balanced discussion of design theory and practice, and discusses new trends in design.
