From the Author

This book is aimed at a very wide audience. It is suitable for those who are new to presentations and those who are new to PowerPoint. It also has useful tips and advice for the more experienced wanting to advance their skills.

There are numerous books about PowerPoint that address the ‘how to do’ instructional approach. There are books about designing and delivering presentations that cover more traditional methods eg using flipcharts and OHPs, and also sometimes including presentations that are computer-generated. For a presentation to be successful it must communicate ideas that will keep the audience interested and involved. Designing an effective presentation requires much forward thinking and planning. This book brings together the topics of design and ‘how to do’ in order to best communicate with the audience.

There are step-by-step instructions for those who prefer to learn this way together with call-out box instruction alongside ‘this is how to’ for those who do not or for those who just want to dip in. A quick reference guide is included too. The accompanying CD-ROM contains photos and clipart together with examples of presentations that demonstrate good and bad practices. These examples give an idea of what can be done using PowerPoint and hints on how to incorporate good practice into your own presentations.

I hope you will enjoy using this book and find it useful in meeting your own particular needs.
