Synopsis
What's Your Problem? describes the problem-solving mathematics program that author Penny Skinner developed with a class of children over a two-and-a-half year period. It is a program that can be used n conjunction with any mathematics curriculum since its central concern is teaching style, rather than content.
She provides teachers with clear and detailed information on how they can set up similar programs with their own classes. All the familiar topics in three mathematical strands-number, space, and measurement-are introduced by means of problem-solving activities and the mathematics is integrated with other curriculum areas, particularly language work.
What's Your Problem? also includes lots of original games, illustrated examples of the children's work and discussions of the problems posed, many of which the children have generated themselves. This is a book to inspire and assist teachers who wish to adopt a problem-centered approach to teaching mathematics.
