Q_uelques amis ont bien voulu penser, qu'en publiant en un volume ces études remaniées et complétées, je ferais un travail utile. C'est l'origine de ce petit livre. Dont tout le mérite sera la sincérité avec laquelle je me suis efi'orcé d'y traiter une question qui a soulevé tant de passions.
