Excerpt from Nuclear Waste Management Program Summary Report: Workshop on Research and Development Needs in Backfill for Long Term Storage of Nuclear Waste in Deep Geologic Repositories, Held at the National Bureau of Standards, Washington, DC, April 13-14, 1981
The Backfill Development Project at pnl is sponsored by the Office of Nuclear Waste Isolation (onwi). The project has been funded for just over 12 months. Oewi has directed pnl to develop backfill materials for use in repository sys tems in basalt and tuff. We will do a very limited number of tests of material in salt. The current pnl program is limited to materials development and.
