The past decade has witnessed a dramatic increase of interest in the practical applications of memory research: large numbers of psychologists who study memory are now interested in applying their work to the real world. This second edition of Aspects of Memory brings together contributions from a team of internationally recognised experts, and reflects the considerable advances made in the past few years.
Beginning with a chapter on the methodological problems involved in applying memory research, Aspects of Memory goes on to deal with eyewitnessing and face recognition to show that psychology can make valuable contribution to forensic problems of evidence. Other contributions describe work being done on amnesia and the problems of ageing and memory, showing what psychologists can do to help ordinary people faced with major memory problems. The final chapters deal with topics which have only recently begun to be researched - prospective memory (remembering what to do in the future) and autobiographical memory (remembering your own past history. Both these are seen as vital in enabling individuals to function adequately as social animals.
Designed primarily with students in mind, Aspects of Memory provides and excellent up-to-date review of current approaches to applied memory research. A second volume will deal with the theoretical issues that underlie the practical applications. Contributors include: M. Gruneberg, P.E. Morris, A.E. Fruzzette, K. Toland, S.A. Teller, E. Loftus, H.D. Ellis, J.W. Shepherd, A. Mayes, D.M. Burke, D.J. Hermann, M. Palmisano, and J.A. Robinson
