Synopsis
Charting the progress made by Rugby League during the 1980s, especially in the development of amateur Rugby, this book describes the different codes of Union and League Rugby and argues that eventually they will be united again as they were before 1895. The author, who was a coach of both Rugby Union and League, analyzes the exciting contribution of both Australian and New Zealand players to the League game and contrasts it with the declining interest in Rugby Union as a spectator sport because of its obsession with tactics that emphasises the static side of the game. He argues that the two codes will eventually be united again, as they were before 1985, with professional Union players simplifying the rules of their game to make possible a single professional league.
