Synopsis

Mathematical Modeling of Inelastic Deformation details the mathematical modeling of the inelastic behavior of engineering materials. The authors use a thermodynamic approach to the subject and focus on crystalline materials, but not to the exclusion of macro-moleular solids. Within a unified theory for small and large deformations, they develop simple models, such as the elastic-perfectly plastic model, as well as complex models dealing with anisotropic hardening. The book includes finite element implementation of the theory and illustrates the implementation with examples from heat production and conduction processes.

Synopsis

This book detais the mathematical modelling of the inelastic behaviour of engineering materials. The authors have chosen a thermodynamic approach to the subject focusing on crystalline materials but not excluding other macro-molecular solids. This approach links up clearly with the theory of creep and plasticity as it reached its final form in the last decade. Simple models and complex models are developed within a unified theory. Computer simulation of the inelastic deformation of solid bodies being the ultimate aim of the modelling, a finite element implementation of the theory is illustrated by examples.
