Synopsis
The Matrimonial and Family Proceedings Act 1984 amended the Matrimonial Causes Act 1973. This book covers the resultant case law built up since the 3rd edition in 1989, and considers the idea of "clean break" - the main factor considered for the distribution of matrimonial assets on divorce. In particular, the authors examine the way in which the "clean break" process can be affected depending upon the affluence or otherwise of the parties involved. At the same time, the book examines how the Child Support Act, with its calculations on child maintence, will affect the "clean break" factor.

Synopsis
In order to advise clients embarking on ancillary relief proceedings the practitioner has to be aware of the range of decisions within which particular cases are likely to fall. This book summarizes all those cases which can be usefully categorised under ten main chapter headings. Since the last edition was published the Matrimonial and Family Proceedings Act 1984 has come into force, amending the Matrimonial Causes Act 1973. A useful amount of case law has built up in its wake showing how the various changes brought about by the 1984 Act are being put into practice by the courts. The specific effects of the new statutory provisions are dealt with in the brief introductions to be found at the start of each chapter.
