Synopsis
The multicultural perspective of this introduction to abnormal psychology is presented in a context that emphasizes the influence of society and culture on both the identification and the treatment of disorders. The authors encourage students to become active participants in the learning process by offering varying viewpoints and inviting critical thinking. This fourth edition expands the biochemical models of etiology and treatment, and DSM-IV has been incorporated throughout. Critical-thinking skills are emphasized more in the narrative, and a "thinking critically" box in each chapter provides background, questions to consider, and suggested activities in relation to an unresolved or controversial psychological issue. About the Author
David Sue is professor emeritus of psychology at Western Washington University, where he is an associate of the Center for Cross-Cultural Research. He has served as the director of the Psychology Counseling Clinic and the Mental Health Counseling Program. He and his wife co-authored the book COUNSELING AND PSYCHOTHERAPY IN A DIVERSE SOCIETY and he is co-author of COUNSELING THE CULTURALLY DIVERSE: THEORY AND PRACTICE. He received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Washington State University. His research interests revolve around multicultural issues in individual and group counseling.
