ENGLISH , ABOUT THE AUTHOR :: Walter Farley (born Walter Farley Lorimer, June 26, 1915 in Syracuse , New York - October 16, 1989 in Sarasota , Florida) the son of Walter Patrick Farley and Isabelle " Belle " was L . ( Vermilyea ) Farley. He was an American writer, primarily horses tales for children. Educated at Columbia, where he received his degree in 1941 , his first and most famous was The Black Stallion (1941 ) . He wrote many sequels , and the series has continued since his death by his son Steven . Farley 's uncle was a professional rider and taught various methods of horse training and the advantages or disadvantages of each method. Mr. Farley began writing The Black Stallion while he was a student at Erasmus Hall High School Brooklyn and Mercersburg Academy in Pennsylvania . He finished it and had it published in 1941 while still a student at Columbia University. Farley and his wife, Rosemary , had four children -pam , Alice, Steven and Tim- who grew up on a farm in Pennsylvania and a beach house in Florida. In 1989, Farley was honored by his hometown in the library of Venice , Florida , which established the Walter Farley literary reference in the wing of their children. Farley died of cancer in October 1989 , shortly before the publication of The Young Black Stallion , the twenty- first book of the Black Stallion series and after the start of production of the television series The Adventures of the Black Stallion . About the Author

Walter Farley's first book, The Black Stallion, was an instant hit when it appeared in 1941. Mr. Farley went on to write thirty-three other enormously popular books about the Black Stallion and other horses which were published in more than twenty countries. He died in 1989, shortly before the publication of his last novel, The Young Black Stallion, written with his son Steven.
