Mass Market Paperback. Condition: Good. Illlustrated (illustrator). Some edgewear and creasing of spine and covers, otherwise still a fair reading copy - This book is designed for use as a supplementary text in cultural and anthropology courses. The book chronicles the rapid social and economic change in Arembepe, a Brazilian coastal fishing village, which the author has visited repeatedly from 1962 to the present (1991). The new edition brings the account up-to-date by describing and analyzing the past ten years of life in Arembepe. This story blends descriptions of people in another culture with the anthropologist's recollection of his own attitudes, feelings and reactions. The book includes an analysis of the positive impact of television in widening the horizons of formerly isolated people, and in erasing the historical division between city and country.
