Synopsis

Athens is a unique, ancient city, surrounded by countryside which is rich in Byzantine churches and monasteries. Emphasising archaeology, art and architecture, this guide book provides information on museums, churches, monasteries, and archaeological sites, accompanied by many plans. There is also a detailed street map of the city and colour maps of Attica. The 9-part section on Attica suggests excursions out of the city, such as to the island of Aiyina, and includes descriptions of sites and monuments of interest. There is also a practical information section on Athens, including useful tips on planning your trip, language and transport with a selection of city hotels and restaurants listed. There is further practical information in each section on Attica for the reader who wishes to escape from the city for a short trip.
