If you want to make the long, dark months of winter a time of adventure and fun, then Winter Adventure is a good place to start.
Sub-titled A Complete Guide to Winter Sports the book details everything you ever wanted to know about every winter sport you can name--and a few you probably couldn't. Sledding, snowshoeing, snowboarding, winter camping, curling and barrel jumping are all there, as is the slightly more mysterious pass time of skijoring. (A cross between dog sledding and skiing)
The authors, who are enthusiastic enough about snow to live in Montana, have between them written a number of books and articles on winter sports, and their expertise, not to mention enthusiasm, is obvious. If the beautiful photography of crisp, white snow and piercingly blue skies is not enough to make you rush to find a suitable pair of snowshoes, then this would make a great fireside companion. Sections on safety, dressing for the weather and how to walk on snow and ice keep the advice well within the realms of the beginner. And the waterproof plastic cover means you can slip it into your salopettes whenever you venture out of the door. A great book for all winter enthusiasts.
The book was written to accompany the US public TV show Trailside: Making Your Own Adventure and has companion volumes including Cross-country skiing and Snowshoeing.
