Synopsis
Written by a doctor who has herself had cancer, this aims to help cancer patients and their families through the first few months after diagnosis. It considers what the new patient needs to know to deal with the medical, social and emotional issues that arise from a diagnosis of cancer, and addresses the issues from the perspectives of both doctor and patient. It deals with the immediate questions that a cancer patient has, including: What is cancer? Will I lose my hair? How do I deal with my family? and explains remission and staging, among other terms. Reading and resource lists and a glossary of the most common tests that cancer patients undergo are also included.
