Five Lectures Psychoanalysis - Hardcover

9780393011333: Five Lectures Psychoanalysis

Synopsis

Freud approved the overall editorial plan, specific renderings of key words and phrases, and the addition of valuable notes, from bibliographical and explanatory. Many of the translations were done by Strachey himself; the rest were prepared under his supervision. The result was to place the Standard Edition in a position of unquestioned supremacy over all other existing versions. Newly designed in a uniform format, each new paperback in the Standard Edition opens with a biographical essay on Freud's life and work -along with a note on the individual volume-by Peter Gay, Sterling Professor of History at Yale.

About the Author

Sigmund Freud (1856-1939) is one of the twentieth century's greatest minds and the founder of the psychoanalytic school of psychology. His many works include The Ego and the Id; An Outline of Psycho-Analysis; Inhibitions; Symptoms and Anxiety; New Introductory Lectures on Psycho-Analysis; Civilization and Its Discontent, and others. Peter Gay (1923-2015) was the author of more than twenty-five books, including the National Book Award winner The Enlightenment, the best-selling Weimar Culture, and the widely translated Freud: A Life for Our Time.

From the Back Cover

In 1909 Freud delivered five lectures at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts. He spoke on the foundations of psychoanalysis, and the lectures were published the following year. Until the far more extensive Introductory Lectures on Psycho-Analysis, Five Lectures on Psycho-Analysis was the authoritative summary of Freud's ideas, and it remains a lucid general introduction.

Hardbound. Condition: Good. 1st Printing, this edition. Description: This is from the series, Freud in the Standard Edition, which is explained thus: ''Throughout the period when Freud wrote his major works, various translations and editions, differing widely in the accuracy of their texts and the quality of their content, made their appearance. Increasingly, as the body of Freud's work achieved commanding stature, the need arose for a definitive and uniformly authentic English-language edition of all his writings. The Standard Edition of the Complete Psychological Works of Sigmund Fried was undertaken to achieve this goal. The work is under the general editorship of James Strachey, and he himself made new translations of many of the writings, supervising the emendation of others and contributing valuable notes, both bibliographical and explanatory. The result is to place this edition in a position of unquestioned supremacy over all other existing versions.'' BINDING/CONDITION: black binding with gilt spine text; owner's name, writ large, on both of the front endpapers, otherwise a Very Good book, with a Good+ dust jacket; publisher's price on the jacket flap is intact. appendices, bibliography, index. 8vo (8 inches tall). 73 pages.
