The Upanisads, the basic philosophical texts of Hinduism, represent the height of Vedic philosophy. Many of the older Upanisads can be dated in the 8th and 7th centuries BC. This study contains in full the classical Upanisads, those commented on or mentioned by the 9th-century Indian philospher, Shankara. The Sanskrit text, transliterated into Roman script, is follwed, verse by verse, with an English translation, to which are added a commentary on the argument and notes on the vocabulary. Also included is a very detailed introduction by Dr Radhakrishnan.
