of the Architecture Forum, and to the evolution of TOGAF, to ensure that others make a fair contribution in return. So much for legal necessities. I turn now to the additional information and resources that I hope the reader will ?nd of interest. The Development of TOGAF TOGAF has come a long way since its inception in 1994 at the instigation of The Open Group’s User Council (as it then was)―representatives of the computer user community among The Open Group membership. The original motivations for TOGAF were very much as Tony and Col have expounded so eloquently in the early chapters of this book. The original development of TOGAF was based on the Technical - chitecture Framework for Information Management (TAFIM) developed by the U.S. Department of Defense. The DoD gave The Open Group - plicit permission and encouragement to create TOGAF by building on the TAFIM, which itself represented hundreds of person-years of dev- opment effort and millions of dollars of U.S. government investment. Starting from this sound foundation, the members of The Open Group’s Architecture Forum have developed successive versions of TOGAF over the years and published them on The Open Group’s public Web site. TOGAF-Related Resources The Open Group’s Architecture Forum portal at http://www.opengroup. org/architecture/ provides a ‘‘way in’’ to the information sources - scribed in the remainder of this Foreword. The TOGAF documentation can be viewed freely online at http:// www.opengroup.org/public/arch/.

Guide to Enterprise it Architecture Offers a comprehensive overview of information and database systems design and implementation. This book provides an accessible presentation and explanation of technical architecture for systems complying with TOGAF standards, the accepted international framework.
The text will provide a comprehensive and pragmatic introduction and advanced reference to the context, definition realization of technical architecture in information and database technology. Covering nearly the full spectrum of architectural concern, we also illustrate and concretize the notion of traceability from business goals, strategy through to technical architecture, providing the reader with a holistic and commanding view. The work has two mutually supportive foci: information technology technical architecture, the in-depth, illustrative and contemporary treatment of which comprises the core and majority of the book; and a strategic and business context, to which a technical architecture tends to enshrine only a partially visible connection. The introduction and description of TOGAF (The Open Group Architectural Framework) as a foundation architecture sets the scene for exploring the notion of the technical reference model, standards information base and the overarching architectural development method. This title offers comprehensive treatment of technical architecture. It covers all aspects of the technical architecture development "process".
It utilizes a contemporary problems area (E-Business enablement for organizations with an existing IT infrastructure). It provides the motivated reader with practical reference work, written by practicing architects. It is an exposition that disseminates precious field heuristics - that is, proven qualitative and quantitative 'rules' that guide information architects in their role."About this title" may belong to another edition of this title.
