Synopsis
Mechanical engineering, an engineering discipline born of the needs of the industrial revolution, is once again asked to do its substantial share in the call for industrial renewal. The general call is urgent as we face profound issues of productivity and competitiveness that require engineering solutions, among others. The Mechanical Engineering Series is a series featuring graduate texts and research monographs intended to address the need for information in contemporary areas of mechanical engineering. Synopsis
This book presents a comprehensive treatment of laminar viscous flow. It thus limits itself to the study flows at small or moderate Reynolds numbers, where the laminar flow is stable, but it also provides a basis for studies of all subsequent extensions, including stability and turbulence. Covering not only the classical topics (the Navier-Stokes equation, exact solutions, and the like), but also topics of great practical importance (lubrication, non-Newtonian properties, heat and mass transfer, and so forth) often left out of standard texts on fluid dynamics, the book will be of use to a broad range of engineers, physicists, and others interested in the flow of viscous fluids.
