Algorithms and methodologies related to routing, regeneration, wavelength assignment, subrate-traffic grooming, and protection are presented, with an emphasis on optical-bypass-enabled (or all-optical) networks. The focus is on techniques that have been proven to produce efficient results in realistic carrier networks. All of the algorithms presented scale well with network size so that they are suitable for real-time design.
