The Conference sets out to examine some of the new challenges which face the pump industry arising from, for example, environmental issues or the need to pump multiphase fluids in the extraction of oil and gas from under the sea. These requirements place heavy emphasis on the achievement of high operating reliability in all components of a pump and call for new approaches to design and the use of new technology materials. The papers have been selected to stimulate discussion both on these issues and on the latest state of the art in devising new solutions for more familiar problems.
