About the Author
Caroline Smith's paintings hang in collections throughout the world and she exhibits regularly in galleries in Europe and the US. Caroline's knowledge of symbolism and feeling for colour add powerfully to the imagery of her cards. John Astrop, Caroline's husband, is an astrologer, author and artist. Formerly a lecturer at Hornsey Art College, he later became interested in astrology and joined the Astrological Lodge of London and the Astrological Association.

Caroline Smith and John Astrop's companion book to their 78-card deck, which follows the standard tarot structure but drops the traditional suits of wands, cups, swords and pentacles. The four minor suits stand directly for Fire, Earth, Air and Water, and the 22 major arcana belong to Spirit. Several trumps are renamed: the Magician becomes the Trickster, the High Priestess the Virgin, the Wheel of Fortune Fate, and the Lovers Choice. Each card carries astrological symbols and a keyword. The major arcana add lines of verse, and the minor arcana add a god or goddess and Egyptian words. The text gives each card a description and a reading meaning, and includes quick-reference keys, a table of the Egyptian terms, number meanings, card layouts and sample readings.
