Synopsis

This is part of a series which contains science projects appropriate to each of the four seasons - from making and testing kite designs on windy spring days, to cross-pollinating flowers in summer; from observing and monitoring bird migrations in autumn to testing the weathering effects of water in winter. The step-by-step instructions allow children to carry out many of the projects on their own or with the help of an adult. This book has 11 projects appropriate to winter, including freezing and thawing, weathering, insulation, the effects of wind chill, friction on ice, snow shoes, and the effects of the cold weather on plants and animals. The books are appropriate to Key Stages 1 and 2 of the National Curriculum for Science. All titles include teachers' notes, with suggestions for further extension projects and notes on the National Curriculum. The book is illustrated with photographs of children engaged in the projects, and the finished items.
