Excerpt from Logging Slash Flammability After Five Years
Information on the characteristics of 5-year-old slash was obtained entirely from the 63 plots used for testing rate of fire spread and fire intensity. Representative plots were photographed, depth of slash was measured at four points on each plot, and a careful written description was prepared for each species.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the evolution of logging slash flammability over five years, examining the impact of aging on the physical characteristics and fire behavior of nine northern Rocky Mountain tree species. The author meticulously documents the changes in slash fuel components, continuity, depth, and density, providing a comprehensive understanding of how these factors influence rate of fire spread and intensity. Through rigorous experimentation, the book quantifies the decline in flammability over time, highlighting the critical role of fine fuel components and their elevation above the ground in determining slash hazard. The insights gained from this research are invaluable for forest managers, firefighters, and policymakers seeking to mitigate the risks associated with logging slash and protect both human communities and ecosystems from wildfires. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
