Der große Fortschritt, den die praktische Anwen dung von Automobilen und die dadurch bewirkte kon struktive Vervollkommnung derselben in den letzten Jahren machte, beschränkte sich bis auf die jüngste Zeit, unter Vernachlässigung des Elektromobils, fast ausschließlich auf den Benzinwagen, obwohl das elek trisch betriebene Automobil, infolge der bekannten vorzüglichen Betriebseigenschaften des Elektromotors. Wie kein anderer Selbstfahrer alle jene Vorzüge in sich vereinigt, welche von einem praktischen Verkehrs zwecken dienenden Automobil gefordert werden. Die Ursache für diese Vernachlässigung mag darin zu finden sein, daß bis in die jüngste Zeit der Automobilismus fast völlig auf die Pflege jener Kreise angewiesen war, für die das Automobil ein reines Sportfahrzeug ist. Die Ansprüche, die man nämlich an ein solches Fahrzeug zu stellen berechtigt ist, fallen zum Teil nicht mit jenen zu sammeh, welche man an ein für praktische Verkehrs zwecke taugliches stellt. Zu den ersteren gehören ins besondere eine außerordentlich hohe (renn Geschwin digkeit und eine große Wegleistung mit einmaliger Energieaufnahme.
