Excerpt from Storage of Seed Cotton in Trailers: Production Research Report No. 81
Simpson, Adams, and Stone 4 showed that water absorption by the cottonseed takes place rapidly through the chalazal opening, more slowly through the micropyle, and almost not at all through the side wall. This work disproves a widely held belief that the fiber acts as a wick by which moisture migrates into or out of the cottonseed.
