Many were, consequently, exposed to distress, and regretted the hour they em braced an occupation which promised endless labour and a fruitless harvest. To assist them in this conjuncture, a number of wealthy men formed themselves into' a Society, for the laudable purpose of furthering the - intentions of the College, and opened a Lee, or Mart, for Paintings, which the Artists were unable to dispose of at their own Institution.
