Thus, the indices 2 and'3, being added together are 5, and the numbers i and 8, the terms corresponding with those indices being multiplied together, are 32, which is also the number answering to the index 5.
And, in like manner, if any one index be subtracted from another, the difference will be the index of that number, which is equal to the quotient of the two terms to which those indices belong.
Thus, the index 5, minus the index 2, is 3; which is the index of the 8, the quotient obtained by dividing the term 32, corresponding to the in by the term 4, corresponding to the index 2.
